Alberto Alessi has been described as the 'manufacturing maestro' and the 'godfather' of Italian product design. He is currently General Manager of Alessi Spa, and leader of strategic marketing communication, and design. He has famously danced on the borderline between successful and risky projects, what he describes in his own terms as the area of the 'not possible' but as a result, Alessi's risk management skills are now sought after in industrial organisations led by technology, as well as design.
Alberto Alessi, the third generation of Alessi, took the reins of the eponymous family business in 1970. His partnerships with some of the world's best designers have transformed the 80 year old company from household-trade supplier to design leader. Since his fathers' launch of famous steel products, like the 'Bombe' tea and coffee set introduced in 1946, Alberto Alessi has branched out into such neighbouring fields as glassware and china, objects of plastic and wood, wall clocks, lighting fixtures and toys.
Alessi has published several books and collaborated with international magazines and publications regarding articles relating to design. He holds an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the University of Central England and is an Honorary Committee member of the Design Museum in London, a Senior Fellow of the Royal College of Art, London, and an Honorary Professor of the Hochschule der Bildenden Kunste, in Germany.
Alessi is also a Doctor of Fine Arts at the Miami University of Oxford, Ohio, and a Member of the Academic Board of the U.I.A.H. University of Helsinki. In 1998 Alessi received the MBA Design Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York.
Alberto Alessi is an explorer of the frontiers of technology as well as the design markets. His products excite and move people, they tell a story and convince the public, making Alessi one of Italy's most renowned international trade names.
